Course Description

ArtRage is a fun and easy to use painting tool for Windows and Mac OSX that lets you play with realistic paints on your computer. ArtRage is an elegantly simple and straight forward draw-paint computer program. It is designed for artists in the traditional sense, people who put marks on canvas to convey their vision to others visually. This program doesn't have most of those cute computer tools that artists at canvases don't have either -- it is simply a program for drawing and painting digitally.

This self-study course does not address the drawing aids and layers features of ArtRage 2.5.

This is a 6 week, self-paced, online course. If you need additional help understanding the material presented, you can communicate with the instructor and fellow classmates. The instructor will monitor and track your progress throughout the class. LVS Online offers many wonderful learning tools to help you get the most out of your online course, including an online portfolio service that manages all your course registrations, certificate of completion option, a class discussion board to interact with your instructor and fellow classmates, free hosting account, and a student upload area.

Course Requirements

A working copy of ArtRage 2. You may download a free version or purchase the full version here.

Students have the option of using the Student Upload Area or free web hosting made available for LVS students. Details are provided in the classroom.

If you prefer to use your own web space, you must know how to upload your files to a server. Free tutorials are available:

LESSON 1
Welcome to ArtRage class! I am your instructor, John Kramar. I have developed graphics of my work for my presentations. When the Macintosh came out in 1984 I was immediately captured by its graphical interface. I frequently found himself having to develop graphics of my analysis work on my Mac as its capabilities surpassed those of my employer. While taking traditional art courses I found myself figuring out how to use the techniques being taught on moderately priced consumer art computer programs. To me the Tablet PC was a natural tool for the digital artist. ArtRage was bundled with other software on the Tablet PC and I was impressed with its simple elegance. When ArtRage 2 was offered with expanded capabilities in February 2006 I found myself using it for most of my graphical painting efforts on both my Mac and Tablet PC.

ArtRage 2 is a program that allows you to easily use your computer to draw and paint on a surface -- like artists have done for eons. It is a simple but elegant art program that doesn't have the fancy computer non-traditional artist tricks like cut and paste distort etc. And when you paint using ArtRage 2 you don't have any paint on your clothes, and you don’t have a mess that has to be cleaned up before the paint dries and the brushes don’t get ruined if you don’t clean them.
