Distance learning is rapidly transforming the education landscape. This is a 5 week, self-paced, online course. If you need additional help understanding the material presented, you can communicate with the instructor and fellow classmates. The instructor will monitor and track your progress throughout the class. Course Requirements

Anyone enrolling in an on-line course and is new to this environment. The student interested in this course should have basic computer knowledge. LVS offers a free Windows class if needed. All lessons are available in PDF format. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view/print the lessons. Plan to devote 2 - 3 hours per week on the lesson and assignment.

Lesson 1 What Exactly is Distance Learning? Distance education, or distance learning, is a field of education that focuses on the technology and instructional systems design that are effectively incorporated in delivering education to students who are not physically "on site" to receive their education. Instead, teachers and students may communicate asynchronously (at times of their own choosing) by exchanging printed or electronic media, or through technology that allows them to communicate in real time (synchronously). Distance education courses that require a physical on-site presence for any reason including the taking of examinations is considered to be a hybrid or blended course or program.
