Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2's superior organizing tools make it a snap to get your photo collection under control, and you can edit photos using powerful tools like the Clarity tool, set white balance, edit exposure using the Tone Curve, and crop. You can even fix blemishes with the Spot Removal Tool and remove red eye, and use the Adjustment Brush to brush on corrections only where they are needed...all this without leaving Lightroom! You can even send photos to Photoshop or Elements for further work.
Lightroom lets you save custom settings as presets so you can apply the same settings to other photos in a snap, and supports plugins to send photos to online sites like Flickr. You can share photos with online galleries and prints. This six week course will have you organized and sharing your photos in no time!

Lightroom's full name is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, and it is part of Adobes Photoshop family of programs along with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Photoshop Elements. As part of the Photoshop family, it is a standalone program that can be used alongside Photoshop or Elements or completely on its own. In this class it will be referred to as "Lightroom" since I know you know what I mean or you wouldn't be reading this!
Lightroom is a non-destructive photo editor. When you edit images in Photoshop or Elements, the pixels are actually changed. This is known as destructive editing. When you use Lightroom, changes you make are written to the Lightroom database file. The actual pixels are not changed. This kind of photo editing is known as non-destructive since it doesn't change or damage the original image.
Lightroom does NOT NOT NOT store your PHOTOS. Did I say Lightroom does not store your photos? This is one thing many people do not understand and can easily delete their photos from their hard drive thinking Lightroom has them. This is not the case! Lightroom does not have them. Lightroom has INFORMATION about them, and that's all. The only time the corrections are actually applied to the image is when you export or print them.
>Lightroom is a database program. It creates a database file that contains the LOCATION of your photos, not the photos themselves. It also contains tags or any other information written to the photo file, as well as any changes made to the photos, which is why it is a non-destructive editor. It always has the information for the original photo.
Can you use Lightroom if you don't shoot in RAW? Yes, you can! I do! Camera RAW files contain more information and can be corrected more than jpgs coming from your digital camera, but you still can make a huge difference on your JPG or TIFF using the Camera Raw editing in Lightroom.
