Course Excerpt
LESSON 1

Ok, let's do some basic review by doing a short exercise that utilizes many of the tools and features we covered in the Level I PSPP X2 course. This way, you will be roaring and ready to go when I hit you next week with the difficult stuff! You scared? You should be . Just kidding! But let's do refresh our skills just a bit.

After you have mastered all of the PSPP X2 courses and are cranking out those magnificent masterpieces at warp speed you might find yourself wanting/needing to protect those images from theft. This brings us to the ever so touchy subject of copyright.

In a nutshell; Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (title 17, U. S. Code) to the authors of "original works of authorship", including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works. This protection is available to both published and unpublished works. If you live outside the U.S., please check your copyright protection laws for that country. You can read more about U.S. copyright at the government website located here: http://www.copyright.gov/

Just because there is a law stating the work is yours or that you have it up on YOUR OWN website doesn't mean that there isn't going to be some idiot out there that tries to steal it. A lot of times they will take the image and then alter it just a bit and try to claim as their own. Some of the more brazen idiots don't even bother to try and alter it! I have had entire web pages lifted and claimed as "their" own on more than one occasion. So how do you protect yourself and your images without the menacing headaches ? One way is to use PSPP X's built in watermark protection.

A watermark is the process of possibly irreversibly embedding information into a digital signal. The signal may be audio, pictures or video, for example. If the signal is copied, then the information is also carried in the copy. This method stops those that try and alter the image dead in their tracks. The watermark is placed in such a place in the image that removing it is virtually impossible without completely destroying the image. Below is an example of a simple text watermark. it is simple text on a new layer with a bevel and emboss effect applied to the text then changing the blend mode of that layer to hardlight.

Please note: Lessons provide step-by-step instructions with detailed screen captures.
